Indigo Shibori: The Art of Blue

Spend the day exploring the beautiful art of Japanese-inspired Shibori resist dyeing and the magic of indigo at Curate Essentials.

In this hands-on workshop, we’ll learn how folding, binding, wrapping, and compression create one-of-a-kind patterns on cloth. You’ll work with a traditional indigo-blue palette while learning several resist techniques, including geometric fold-and-bind patterns, marbles and rubber bands, and PVC pole wrapping. Between dips, we’ll watch our textiles transform as the indigo oxidizes from green to its characteristic deep blue.

Each student will create and take home:

  • One cotton T-shirt
  • One 22" × 22" cotton bandana
  • One lightweight scarf

You’re also welcome to bring a pair of white cotton socks to experiment with if time allows. Additional T-shirts, scarves, and bandanas will be available for purchase during the workshop for anyone who wants to keep creating.

We’ll take a lunch break during the day. Lunch is not included.
