Eco Printing Workshop for Beginners

Spend the day exploring the beautiful and unpredictable art of eco printing at Curate Essentials. In this hands-on workshop, we’ll use leaves, flowers, heat, moisture, and natural processes to create one-of-a-kind botanical prints on watercolor paper.

We’ll begin by learning the basics of eco printing, including mordants, modifiers, plant tannins, and the differences between hot- and cold-press watercolor paper. Then we’ll head into the Curate garden to harvest botanicals for our work before building and steaming our own printing bundles.

Throughout the day, you’ll experiment with different plants and modifiers, including copper sulfate, ferrous sulfate, and iron oxide, and discover how each can influence color and detail. We’ll break for lunch and walk together to the Truck Stop before returning for an afternoon of printing, experimenting, and the much-anticipated bundle reveal.

Students will leave with a collection of their own botanical prints in both 5 × 7 and 9 × 12 formats, along with a reference handout to continue learning from.
